Three miles of Atlantic shoreline. Nearly every oceanfront building has private beach access, and several Intracoastal-side communities keep their own beach clubs across A1A. Milani Park, a county-owned oceanfront parcel at the south end of town, remains undeveloped. Spanish River Park and Red Reef Park in Boca Raton are minutes south.
The Intracoastal Waterway forms the town's western edge. Bel Lido Isle, Byrd Beach, Boca Cove and the west-side towers offer docks and marinas; the Boca Raton Inlet is about three miles south and the Boynton Inlet about nine miles north for ocean access.
Delray Beach's Atlantic Avenue dining and galleries are about 10 minutes north; Boca Raton's Mizner Park, Royal Palm Place and The Boca Raton resort are about 10 minutes south. Both downtowns offer the restaurants and shopping that Highland Beach, by design, does not.
Highland Beach is served by the School District of Palm Beach County; zoned public schools are in Boca Raton (J.C. Mitchell Elementary, Boca Raton Community Middle and Boca Raton Community High). Private options include Saint Andrew's School, Pine Crest Boca Raton and Grandview Preparatory, all within about 15 minutes.
Boca Raton Airport (BCT), about 15 minutes away, serves private and charter aviation with FBO service. Palm Beach International (PBI) is roughly 30 to 35 minutes north and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) about 35 to 40 minutes south.
Highland Beach runs its own police department, fire-rescue department and library, all on A1A, and a town hall on the Intracoastal. Garbage, water and the town's famously low-key character are managed locally; Palm Beach County provides schools and the property appraiser.
Most Highland Beach buyers already know the ocean: they are trading a summer house in the Hamptons, Spring Lake or Westport for a year-round oceanfront residence with no state income tax, 10 minutes from two downtowns. Ricky's relocation guides cover taxes, homestead, condo reserves, insurance and timing.
Manhattan and Long Island buyers find Highland Beach's oceanfront towers the closest thing to a Hamptons address with a doorman, and a direct flight from JFK to PBI or FLL.
